Have you ever wondered what we can learn about culture from what we see on our devices?

My name is Andy Fischer Wright, a doctoral candidate at UT Austin in the Radio-Television-Film Department. My dissertation project asks about the role and function of push notifications in our daily lives, and seeks to address how being ‘always-on’ and ‘always-alert’ might play a role in the lives of young people as well as how any impact may not necessarily be positive. Furthermore, I hope to understand any particular strategies that are used by smartphone users to deal with this cultural force in their everyday lives.

Participants will be asked to take one short intake survey followed by four even shorter surveys over 24 hours next week (beginning 2/12.) The total time spent taking surveys should not exceed 10-15 minutes.

If you are a UT student interested in participating in this study, please click this link to take the intake survey. In addition, participants who engage in a debriefing discussion will be entered into a drawing to receive one of ten $10 Starbucks gift cards. This drawing will be decided using PickerWheel.com, and winners will be sent their gift card via email within two weeks of the debrief.

Please reach out with any questions!
